Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking among the top ten sculptors under 30 years old according to Artprice that same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its work FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl on his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot Gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements at Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl particularly enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His solo exhibition in 2016 at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world equestrian championship in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012, he offered Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the city’s entrance. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by figures such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptures “One Dollar,” which earned him a place among the world’s top ten sculptors under 30 according to Artprice.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing inspiration from “Cryptogram One,” he created an aluminum cast trophy with a polished mirror finish, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7e Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received a commission to create a new trophy, inspired by a emblematic Deauville symbol: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabines on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he produced the Trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogram One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” on the trophies.
