Ink Box - Asia - 20th century

Exceptional inkstone (Shìyàn), rectangular, in natural black stone, complete with its carved lid.

The lid is richly decorated in high relief with an imperial dragon gliding among stylized clouds in pursuit of the flaming pearl. On the side, a turtle, symbol of longevity, completes this highly symbolic scene.

The inner reservoir is smooth, intended for the traditional grinding of Chinese ink. The grain of the stone is extremely fine, typical of quality productions for literati.
