Rodolphe Töpffer’s Histoire de Mr. Jabot, an illustrated edition published in Genève on stiff red binding, 55 pages, measuring 28.5 × 18.5 cm, in French as the original language, with an 1860 Paris reissue bearing the note autographié chez Caillet 1860 and in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
Excellent Parisian reissue with the note "autographié chez Caillet 1860" of the first album published by the father of comics, Rodolphe Töpffer. Histoire de monsieur Jabot was drawn in 1831 and published in 1833.
For the vast majority of comic historians, it is historically the first Western "comic", while for others it is only the first Western "story in pictures" due to the absence of speech bubbles.
The album contains a half-title, a title, a preface, and 52 black-ink illustrated plates, including the title.
The publisher’s historiated binding in red percaline, adorned on the front cover with a gold composition and a black border.
