CRITICAL NOTE
In this 1965 canvas, Berrino expresses his full post-impressionist maturity. The work is built on a wise chiaroscuro balance: the imposing archways in shadow frame perspectively the dynamic action of the monks. The brushwork is typically tactile and vibrant, capable of capturing the sunlight filtering from the back of the scene.
