Description from the seller

Each page illuminated, created by one of the greatest manuscript illuminators of the Middle Ages: a masterpiece by Jean Colombe, rediscovered only in 2005 at a London auction, featuring full- and even double-page miniatures.

Opulently, richly equipped full facsimile after the original of the Médiathèque Jacques-Chirac (Troyes, France). Publisher: Orbis Mediaevalis – Madrid, 2014. 300-page facsimile in gold-stamped leather binding with original acrylic case, WITHOUT commentary volume, 13 x 10 cm
A unique worldwide edition of only 495 numbered copies
-------------------------------------
The Book of Hours of Guyot Le Peley is a wonderful testament and one of the main works of the outstanding art of Jean Colombe, who, toward the end of the 15th century, was one of the most important manuscript painters in France. On 300 richly adorned pages unfolds a panorama of French manuscript illumination, impressive not only for its quantity and preciousness but also for its artistic quality. Full-page miniatures in architectural frames recall panel paintings, and hundreds of smaller images create a splendid setting for the devotional texts of the manuscript.

Jean Colombe created this Late Gothic masterwork on commission for Guyot Le Peley, a high-ranking citizen from Troyes. After the manuscript passed through the hands of various owners over the centuries and eventually vanished from view, it re-emerged only in 2005 at a spectacular Christie's auction and has since been in the possession of the Bibliothèque municipale of Troyes.
-------------------------------------
Impeccable, almost like-new condition
