A very beautiful limited edition "Presentation Copy" of "The Rose & The Ring. Or the History of Prince Giglio and Prince Bulbo"" by William Makepeace Thackeray. With an introduction by George Macy.
With 7 full-page hand coloured plates and numerous black and white illustrations throughout.
1942. Prepared by George Macy for the Members of the Limited Edition Club in New York, Christmas 1942
Limited edition. This copy is "Presentation Copy". First Edition thus.
Original illustrations by the author have been re-drawn and enlarged by Fritz Kradel. Very beautiful full-page plates coloured by hand in the studio of Charlize Brackley under the supervision of the artist.
Hardcover. Bound in the original decorated dark green cloth binding. Decoration by artist to front cover in colour well preserved. Boards with very little scuffing as seen in photos. Corners almost not bumped, with slight shelf wear.
Spine good, with lettering in white and decoration in colour. Very little scuffing and rubbing towards upper extremity. No bumping by edges.
Binding very good, joints firm and secure with no cracking.
Interior very fine. Brief antiquarian pencil inscription on front endpapers, upper and lower left edge. Old ownership ink inscription verso front endpapers. All illustrations very good. Odd finger rubbing and very little staining. Otherwise very fine and clean and healthy.
Illustrated endpapers with slight staining and rubbing. Page edges all stained dark green.
Dimensions: 30 x 22.5 cm. XIII + 119 pages.
Overall a good collector's copy.
