Oil on hardboard landscape painting titled Le pont by Amédée Boucher (1899–1960), in the Post-Impressionist period, 1950–1960, country France, signed in the lower right, original edition, 63 × 52 cm (unframed) or 72 × 83 cm (framed) and sold with a gold‑coloured carved wooden frame.
Description from the seller
Amédée Boucher (1899 - 1960): The Bridge
The painting measures 52 x 63 cm without the frame / 72 x 83 cm with the frame.
It is executed in oil on hardboard and signed lower right, but not dated.
Based on comparisons with other dated works by the artist, it is likely to have been created between 1945 and 1955.
The frame is a carved, gold-painted wooden frame dating from around 1900. Despite its age, it shows little wear and few nicks. The painting itself is in very good condition.
Amédée Boucher was a well-known Post-Impressionist artist of the early 20th century. He was a member of the renowned Société des Artistes Français, and in the 1950s several of his works were represented at both the Galerie de Seine in London and the Galerie Haussmann in Paris. The motifs of his paintings (primarily landscapes and cityscapes) he found especially in the Alpes-Maritimes region and in the immediate vicinity of the artist village Barbizon.
The present artwork was purchased directly in France a few years ago.
Overall, the painting, particularly in combination with the magnificent gold-colored wooden frame, is a beautiful, very well-preserved and highly decorative example of French Mid-Century art.
