Art Deco pendant light with hand-painted glass shade – ca. 1930

An elegant Art Deco pendant light from around 1920–1930, featuring a beautiful glass shade that reflects the typical interwar period style. The lamp combines geometric forms with soft decorative motifs, a characteristic that perfectly aligns with the Art Deco aesthetic.

The shade is made of opaline glass with a warm ivory-like tint. Around the rim, the glass features hand-painted floral motifs and a stylized leaf ornament, executed in warm orange- and green-toned colors. Between the floral decorations there are geometric accents, creating a typical Art Deco contrast between nature motifs and clean lines.

The shade has a versatile faceted shape with gently wavy edges, allowing the light to be distributed softly and atmospherically. When the lamp is lit, a warm, diffuse glow emerges that is characteristic of opaline glass and was especially beloved in living rooms, dining rooms, and hallways during the 1920s and 1930s.

The lamp is fitted with a brass suspension with chain, also in keeping with the period. Such pendant lamps were widely produced in the Interwar period in Europe, especially in France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where decorative glass factories and lighting ateliers experimented extensively with Art Deco design.

Art Deco lighting is characterized by geometry, symmetry, and refined decoration, often combined with luxurious materials such as glass, brass, and chrome. This lamp is a beautiful example of how functionality and decoration came together in this period.
