Description from the seller
Pair of large decorative carved cats – exotic artisanal style
Pair of sculptures representing two stylized, elongated cats with an elegant and expressive design. Each piece is distinguished by a long slender neck, a head tilted with a naive gaze, and harmonious vertical lines that emphasize their contemporary silhouette.
These sculptures showcase remarkable artisanal work with a textured, crackled finish on one and a warm orangey patina on the other. The decoration is enriched with floral and ornamental motifs finely applied on the front section and the base, evoking Asian or Indonesian influences.
Dimensions and weight:
Height: 98 cm
Width: 23 cm
Depth: 9 cm
Weight: 2.18 kg per piece
Materials and technique:
Wood sculpture (likely lightweight wood such as albizia or similar)
Hand-painted decor
Application of textile motifs or decorative paper varnished (mixed-media technique close to découpage)
Patina finish
Origin and provenance (probable):
These sculptures are part of a Southeast Asian artisanal production, very likely Indonesia (Bali), a region renowned for this type of decorative objects exported to Europe.
This style is characteristic of items made for the Western decorative market, blending local craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
Period:
End of the 20th century / beginning of the 21st century (approximately 1990–2000)
Style:
Contemporary decorative art
Ethnic/ Exotic influence
Style close to Balinese design or revisited tribal art
