The stadera is a balance based on the lever principle, composed of a rod with a fulcrum and a sliding weight called the "Roman". To weigh an object, this is hooked to one end of the rod and the "Roman" is moved along the graduated rod until the scale reaches horizontal balance.
Of Etruscan origin, the stadera was widely used in antiquity for weighing goods, especially those of larger size and better value
Ancient staderes were often made in materials such as wrought iron or brass, and could feature decorations or symbols
