Description from the seller
Lot of two Jewish candelabras.
Israel circa 1960-1970.
The first candle holder shows a Hanukkiah, a nine-armed candelabrum that takes center stage during the Jewish festival of lights, Hanukkah. Although such candelabras are often called a menorah, a traditional menorah has only seven arms.
Features of this menorah
Number of arms: The candelabrum has nine holders. Eight of them are in one line and represent the eight days of the Hanukkah holiday.
The Shamash: The central, slightly elevated arm is the shamash (servant). This candle is used to light the other eight candles.
Symbolism: On top of the shamash is a Star of David (Magen David), a widely known symbol of Jewish identity.
Material: This particular model is finished in a gold-colored brass or bronze, materials often used for these ritual objects.
The second candle holder shows a menorah, a seven-armed candelabrum that is one of the oldest and most important symbols of Judaism and the State of Israel.
Although it is often confused with the nine-armed candelabrum used during Hanukkah, this specific seven-armed form has its own deep symbolism and history.
Meaning and Symbolism
The Temple Candelabrum: The seven-armed menorah is based on the golden candelabrum that burned permanently in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple in Jerusalem.
Seven Days of Creation: The seven arms symbolize the seven days of creation, with the central arm often representing the Sabbath (the day of rest).
Universal Illumination: The candelabrum stands for divine light, wisdom, and the presence of God among the people.
National Symbol: Today the seven-armed menorah is the official emblem of the State of Israel and is depicted on the national coat of arms.
Condition: in good condition, of course with signs of use including some candle wax.
Photos are part of the description.
These were taken under artificial light, the color may vary.
They are well packed and sent by registered mail.
