Veil of Passing Light, an original 2026 acrylic painting by Devon (born 1993) from the United Kingdom, 51 × 51 cm, signed and in excellent condition, depicting animals in a Symbolist, atmospheric composition.
Description from the seller
In Veil of Passing Light, Devon presents an atmospheric composition in which form dissolves into colour and memory. The surface is built through translucent layers of muted pinks, violets, and softened greens, creating a field that feels both fluid and suspended. Vertical traces descend across the canvas like fading impressions, suggesting the presence of forms that resist full articulation.
The painting operates within a space between abstraction and figuration. Hints of structure emerge only to recede, as if the image were in the process of appearing or disappearing. This instability becomes central to the work’s language, where perception is gently unsettled and the viewer is invited to linger within ambiguity rather than resolve it. Devon’s approach aligns with a contemporary lineage of painters such as Gerhard Richter, particularly in the use of blurred transitions and veiled imagery, as well as Michaël Borremans and Adrian Ghenie, where figuration is often partially obscured, suspended between clarity and dissolution.
The handling of acrylic remains notably restrained, favouring diffusion over definition. The surface retains a quiet luminosity, with colour moving laterally and vertically in subtle shifts. The result is a contemplative work that evokes atmosphere, memory, and the passage of time, where what is seen remains deliberately incomplete.
