Ancient Greek / South Italian Black-Gloss Olpe – 4th-3rd Century B.C. Item Details: Culture: Greek / South Italian (Magna Graecia) Chronology: c. 4th - 3rd Century B.C. Material: Orange-red Terracotta with Black-Gloss slip Dimensions: Height 86.0 mm. Description: A refined and intact ancient Greek black-gloss olpe (small pitcher). The vessel features a globular body, a flared mouth with a rounded rim, and a high-arched strap handle connecting the rim to the shoulder. A notable feature is the molded ring foot at the base, which shows high technical skill on the wheel. The entire piece is covered in a deep black gloss with a slight metallic luster, characteristic of the Hellenistic workshops of Magna Graecia. The original orange-red clay is visible in small, authentic wear points on the handle and rim, confirming its manufacture. Condition Report: Completely intact. The surface shows an excellent aged patina with minor, honest wear consistent with age and burial. The presence of a vintage collection label on the base is a significant detail for provenance and historical value. Provenance Statement: The piece comes from an old European collection formed in the 1970 Sent with invoice and certificate of authenticity.
