Description from the seller
Fascinating oil painting on panel depicting an intense female portrait, signed in the lower left corner “R. Scarpelli”.
The work stands out for a impasto and decisive brushstroke, typical of post-Mellown painting? Wait: original says post-macchiaiola which in English is post-_macchiaiola, meaning post-Macchiaioli (Italian movement). So translate as post-MMacchiaioli and early 20th century Italian. The artist captures the model's expression with a sober but vibrant color palette, where warm skin tones contrast with the neutral background worked with a spatula or with robust brushstrokes, giving the face a three-dimensionality and modernity.
The cut of the hairstyle (bob cut) and the painting style suggest a dating placed between the 1920s and 1930s.
