Description from the seller
Holm oak – Black ink engraving on rice paper
Original graphic work by the Spanish artist Natali Wood, created through an artisanal process that combines woodcut engraving with the Japanese technique Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban).
The wooden matrix is worked by hand and subjected to a light carbonization of its surface —a hallmark of Yakisugi— to bring out the natural texture of the wood and its internal structure.
The result is an organic and powerful image in black charcoal ink, where each line faithfully reproduces the real grain of the wood, captured without digital processes. Each print shows slight variations inherent to the manual process, giving every copy a unique character. The use of artisanal rice paper adds lightness, transparency, and a great sensitivity to the contrast between the deep black of the ink and the white of the support.
Natali Wood's work focuses on manual processes, the relationship between nature and matter, and the trace of time on wood, translating the tree's internal structure into a graphic image.
