"How you react" centers on the famous reflection of Epictetus, a statement that shifts the focus from the event to the human capacity to respond, reinterpret and transform the experience.

The piece presents itself as a visual reminder of inner autonomy: what happens outside is contingent, but the reaction — the intimate space where meaning is decided — is deeply creative.

Within this framework, the work functions as a silent manifesto on emotional freedom, resilience, and the active construction of one’s own life. More than illustrating the phrase, it embodies it: inviting the viewer to situate themselves at that point of choice where every gesture, every thought and every response become a form of personal authorship.

Kiru is a Spanish artist with an intuitive and accessible palette, who holds a Degree in Art from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Spain).

Kiru derives from the Sanskrit root kṛ, which means to create, do, trace, and is at the origin of terms such as kṛti (work) or karma (action). It is a historical and documented root, directly linked to the creative act understood as gesture, process and transformation.

THE COLLECTION

In the tradition of abstract art there is a recurring story: many painters who sought to completely expel language discovered that, even in the absence of form, text leaves an inevitable trace. Not as a legible word, but as a human trace, as a gesture of consciousness. That minimal presence — a symbol, an incomplete syllable, a sign that looks like a letter but isn’t — functions as a reminder that behind color and matter there is a will that decides.

That same idea naturally connects with Stoic writings: texts that do not seek to adorn, but to affirm an inner attitude toward the world. Therefore, in the collection “Estoicismo Abstracto,” including textual fragments transformed, distorted or reduced to pure visual energy is not an aesthetic whim, but a coherent act: the best Stoic thoughts become abstract footprints to be perceived as the vibration of a will that does not break.
