Description from the seller
New Series – Urban Legends
David Law
Photographer-artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first came to prominence with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has developed a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of microvisual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recombined by the artist. From a distance, the image reads as immediately legible, strong and confident. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of elements subtly interwoven. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a sought-after balance between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of contemporary imagery and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and unique work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist's proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Prints are made on aluminum with integrated back-mount. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term resistance, color stability, and a modern, contemporary finish.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops authorial and musician work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
