Outer shell: The hard visible layer. Made of polycarbonate (more economical and heavier), fiberglass, or carbon fiber (lighter and ultra-strong). Its function is to distribute impact force over a wider area and protect against penetration by sharp objects.
Inner shell (EPS): A layer of high-density expanded polystyrene located beneath the outer shell. In the event of impact, the EPS compresses irreversibly, dissipating kinetic energy before it reaches the skull.
Comfort padding: Internal fabrics, often hypoallergenic and washable, that ensure helmet stability and user comfort.
Retention system: Consists of the strap and buckle (quick-release or double-D), keeping the helmet securely in place during an accident.
