Beautiful decorative Buddha statue.
Cast bronze, two-tone.
Asian, probably Nepal, circa 1960-1970
Beautiful decorative Buddhist statue, made of bronze with an antique finish. The pose and features of the statue are typical of Tibetan or Nepalese Buddhist art.
Features of the statue
Mudra (hand gesture): The right hand is raised in the Vitarka mudra (the gesture of discussion or teaching) or the Abhaya mudra (the gesture of reassurance and protection).
Attribute: In the left hand the Buddha holds a medicinal bowl (or alms bowl), which is characteristic of the Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru) or Shakyamuni Buddha.
Material: The statue appears to be made of gilded bronze or copper, often with a patina indicating age or a particular artistic finish. It is beautifully two-toned!
Base: The Buddha sits in the lotus position on a double lotus base, a common symbol of divine origin and purity.
Dimensions: 27 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Weighs 2780 grams.
Condition: in good condition with minimal signs of use.
