Description from the seller

Jina Parshvanatha, a sculpture in black stone, inscribed at the base and dated 1635 Vikram Samvat, which corresponds to 1579 in our calendar.
The Jina Parshvanatha is the twenty-third of the twenty-four Tirthankaras (Jain Illuminati), whose symbol is the cobra.
It is estimated that he was born in Varanasi between the 17th and 19th centuries BCE.
He is one of the Jain saints most revered, and many of his stone statues date mainly between the 10th and 17th centuries.
Here he is depicted seated in Dhyana Mudra, absorbed in deep meditation. The face is serene and a five-headed cobra crowns and protects him.
Good condition, one restoration at the neck, beautiful patina, height 27 cm, weight 2770 g.
India, Gujarat, second half of the 16th century.
