Description from the seller
Antique Religious Hand Bell – Agnus Dei (AGNVS), Lion & Pelican Motifs – Bronze – Original Clapper & Chain – 20th century
A characterful antique hand bell dating from the late 20th century, cast in a bronze/brass alloy and richly decorated with symbolic relief motifs.
The bell features a partially legible inscription reading “AGNVS” (Agnus Dei – Lamb of God), accompanied by detailed relief scenes including a lion and a pelican.
These elements are traditionally associated with Christian iconography, symbolising strength, sacrifice, and devotion.
The solid top handle is integrally cast and shows authentic wear from handling. Inside, the bell retains its original clapper and chain, confirming its functional use rather than purely decorative purpose.
The interior shows natural oxidation consistent with age, while the exterior displays a well-preserved patina with light wear, enhancing its antique character.
The bell produces a clear and resonant tone, indicative of a well-balanced casting and quality metal composition.
