Description from the seller
Elegant and atmospheric still life with a rich bouquet of pink roses, loosely arranged in a dark vase. The composition is complemented by subtle elements such as a piece of fruit and a bottle in the background, which gives the whole a intimate and homely atmosphere. The painter employs a loose, impressionistic brushwork where color and light are more important than detail. The soft transitions and the subdued color palette give the work a warm, almost dreamy appearance. The work is signed in the lower right with "C. Coquedier". Although little documented information about the artist is known, the painting clearly fits within the French-Belgian floral still-life tradition from the early 20th century. The painting is set in a richly decorated, classical frame that enhances the elegant character of the work.
