Bla, Bla, Bla… Echoes of the Crowd. 2016
Mixed media on paper
63 × 90 cm
Shipping: Unframed, rolled in a tube
Description of the work:
Bla, Bla, Bla… Echoes of the Crowd (2016) is a work that marks the beginning of Jesús Poveda’s artistic research, in which he sought to give visibility to popular culture, to collective memory, and the respect for a tradition from a personal experience lived during the celebrations of the bull with rope in Chiva (Valencia), based on a contemporary artistic discourse of his own.
The composition is organized around a dark base obtained through drypoint and photogravure, where crowds of anonymous figures are layered and blurred in blue and violet tones. On this surface loaded with memory appear lines of repetitive text (“bla, bla, bla…”) that cut across the image like an empty echo, challenging the contradictions and questioning these kinds of celebrations.
Manual intervention with strips of color (blue, red, yellow, and green) acts as a visual interruption: bars that cut, cover, or reorder the flow of information, turning the surface into a field of tensions between what is said and what is silenced. This duality between the reproduced photographic image and the manual gesture generates a narrative where visual and verbal noise becomes the very material of the work.
About the artist:
Jesús Poveda (Valencia, 1973) is a visual artist and graphic designer. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and a Master in Artistic Production. His work develops through series of contemporary painting and object-based works, where the painting is conceived as an object with symbolic charge and material presence. With a solid professional background in design and art direction, his work combines contemporary painting and visual thinking, exploring the relationship between image, matter, nature, and visual culture. His practice incorporates ecological awareness evident in both materials and discourses, guiding his production toward a current collectionist sensibility towards these values.
For the buyer:
Exclusive and original piece, ideal to elevate any space and be part of a collection with its own personality. The starting price does not reflect its true artistic or conceptual value.
