Bob Buys (1912-1970) - Amsterdam

Barthold (Bob) Buys (Amsterdam, 24 March 1912 - there, 16 August 1970) was a Dutch figurative painter. He painted and aquarelle'd landscapes, harbor and cityscapes, portraits and still lifes, often in an impressionistic manner. He also illustrated several books.
Buijs pursued his education at the Rijksinstituut Tekenleraren in Amsterdam. He worked a lot in France, in Brittany and Port-Vendres. His palette was therefore very light. He was a drawing teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and at the teacher training college in Tilburg. He was a member of the Hollandse Aquarellistenkring, De Onafhankelijken and Arti et Amicitiae. Bob Buijs was also an art critic for Het Vrije Volk and the Haarlems Dagblad.
