Mino Maccari, Senza titolo, mixed media on paper, original, 50 × 70 cm, Italy, 1970, signed, in good condition, depicts animals in an expressionist style.
Description from the seller
Mino Maccari (1898–1989)
Composition with figures and fantastical insect
Technique: mixed media on paper
Dimensions: 50 × 70 cm
Signature: signed lower left
Era: second half of the 20th century
Interesting and lively composition by the well-known Italian artist and intellectual Mino Maccari, a protagonist of the figurative culture of the twentieth century and a central figure in the artistic scene tied to the magazine Il Selvaggio.
The work presents a dynamic and fragmented graphic structure, in which several stylized and caricatured figures arrange themselves in space with expressive freedom and irony typical of the author. The essential, nervous line alternates with watercolor or gouache color inserts, creating an effective balance between mark and color.
Particularly evocative is the presence of a fantastic zoomorphic element, almost an imaginary insect, which gives the scene a surreal and narrative dimension, coherent with Maccari’s satirical and visionary poetics. The human figures, synthesized in incisive profiles, evoke theatrical and dialogic atmospheres.
A work of strong graphic personality, representative of the artist’s free and unconventional expressive research, of notable interest for collectors of Italian art of the twentieth century and modern drawing.
Condition: good overall state with slight signs of time compatible with paper support.
