Description from the seller
Gerrit Nijland (Rotterdam, March 12, 1931) is a Dutch painter. He took lessons from Simon Kramer, an impressionist in Laren (North Holland). That Nijland is not an unknown is evident from Annuaire international des ventes, peintures et sculpture, a yearbook for the art connoisseur, in which his name and work appear.
Gerrit Nijland - Gemini
His training is as fascinating as it is strange. After living in Paris for years, he left for America. After various exhibitions in New York where his works were purchased by museums, etc., he wandered further to Australia and New Caledonia. In 1975 Nijland returned to the Netherlands.
He paints mainly abstract and is not easy to follow. His compositions are primarily a line play with strongly mathematical distortions that come together in the center of the piece to a densification that evokes all sorts of fantasies. Magnificently he manages to place color entirely suitably within the linework, thereby achieving exceptionally beautiful and skilled results. These abstracts have inspired many to buy his work, despite the very high prices.
Wonderfully enough, he also makes church interiors in a completely different genre. Whether it is the curved lines that appeal to him or the atmosphere, this is entirely in accordance with reality and leaves nothing to guess.
They are painted in dark colors, with special attention to detail. A particular light incidence gives the whole a clear dimension. His church interiors are basically echoed in his abstract works
