WORK:

Oil on canvas, depicting a mother with two children in a domestic interior. The composition shows an intimate family scene with a warm, subdued color palette in earthy brown, ochre, and red tones. Characteristic impressionistic brushwork with impasto and loose brushstrokes, typical of the Hague School.

SPECIALITY:

Interior scenes are extremely rare in Bouters’ oeuvre, who mainly painted landscapes and coastal views. This makes the present work an unusual and particularly collector-interesting example of his period of work.
