Against a deep crimson ground, bold strokes of near-black cut vertically across the surface - thick, loaded, decisive. The marks vary in scale and weight: one dominant sweep curves through the center with the force of a single uninterrupted gesture, smaller strokes and scattered drops of black occupy the surrounding red with quieter insistence. VANTA works here not through removal but through addition, the dark paint laid directly onto the red in strokes that carry the full evidence of their making.
The surface tension between the deep red ground and the near-black marks is the work’s subject. Neither element dominates entirely - the red bleeds through at the edges of each stroke, and the black never fully seals off what lies beneath. Represented by S-Gallery and available on Catawiki. The splattered drops that accompany the larger gestures extend the marks’ energy outward, the painting holding both control and release within the same composition.
Pith - the essential core, stripped of everything secondary. The work offers nothing beyond what is directly present: color, gesture, weight, and the red ground that refuses to disappear beneath them.
