Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The way Marc Gonz works consists of burying layer after layer; in this burying process, a face is formed, part of the disorder and of the error to, find a harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushwork show us a visceral work, sometimes vibrant, grotesque and primitive, but at the same time it expresses deep emotions, which recall the ancestral and the spiritual, going to the essence without artifice, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning is transcended. All of this gives us a sense of his complexity and guides us toward the depths of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving an impasto technique in which density of the paint is re-created, molding large overflowing painterly masses. The volume of the brushstrokes makes the works almost sculptural, creating microcosms that take on their own identity when we approach.
