Henrique MAPS, Coded - Diptych, a two‑piece mixed media diptych on 160 g/m² Canson XL Sand Grain paper, each 21 × 29.7 cm, sold as a pair, original hand-signed work from Portugal, 2026, in Abstract Expressionism.
Description from the seller
Coded — Diptych
Two-piece mixed media diptych on Canson XL Sand Grain paper — ink and crayon on natural-toned 160g/m² paper, each piece A4 (21 × 29.7 cm / 8.3 × 11.7 in). Sold as a pair.
In the first piece, a deep cobalt blue figure emerges from a grid of coloured marks — rust, olive, teal, grey — surrounding it like a force field or a crowd. The figure is unmistakably human in shape, yet built entirely from circular forms, as if assembled dot by dot, bead by bead.
The second piece strips the figure away entirely, leaving only the grid — three vertical columns of marks in yellow, red and teal, rhythmic and almost musical, like a colour sequence or a code waiting to be read.
Together they ask a quiet question: what is a person without their context, and what is a pattern without its centre?
Bold, graphic and deceptively simple — a diptych that rewards a second look.
Painting sold by artist directly
Henrique MAPS (1994) is a contemporary visual artist working in painting and mixed media. His work combines figurative and abstract elements to explore identity, social structures, and cultural observation through bold compositions featuring humans, animals, and symbolic imagery.
Working primarily with acrylics, chinese ink, drawing, and collage on canvas, MAPS creates psychologically charged paintings characterized by layered textures, graphic elements, and recurring motifs of eyes, hands, and silhouettes.
His culturally conscious practice examines contemporary social dynamics while drawing inspiration from diverse artistic traditions including urban art, modernism, and expressionism.
