Fine late 19th century French parquetry center table in ebony wood with gilt bronze mounts, Napoléon III eclectic style, measuring 144 cm wide, 87 cm deep and 80 cm high, origin France, in good used condition with age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Splendid and important center table from the Napoleonic III era (Second Empire), made in France in the second half of the 19th century. This furniture piece embodies the opulence and technical mastery of Parisian cabinetmaking of the period.
The top, shaped and elaborately formed, features exceptional inlay work with scrolling motifs and arabesques (noting a central vase with grotesque decorations). The technique imitates the "Boulle" style, using precious woods on a dark background to create a striking chromatic contrast.
The band under the top follows the curved line of the table and is also entirely inlaid. The whole is enriched by a rich array of gilded and chased bronzes: a peripheral beading with a dart motif that protects the edge and appliqué friezes on the legs. The legs, turned and fluted with an ebonized finish, are connected by a shaped X-brace with an elegant central top-like element (pinnacle).
Style: Napoleone III / French Eclecticism.
Epoch: Second half of the 19th Century (circa 1860-1880).
Material: Ebonized wood, inlays in noble woods (maple, fruitwood, bois de rose), gilded bronze.
Origin: France (probable Parisian manufacture).
Width: 144 cm
Depth: 87 cm
Height: 80 cm.
