Rudolf Kargl (* 4. Jänner 1878 in Vienna; † 28. April 1942 in Mödling)
Title: "St.Moritz"
Technique: Watercolor, Gouache / Paper.
Dimensions: 29.5 x 22 cm (outer size), 27.5 x 19.5 cm (inner size)
Condition: Predominantly good condition, some stains in the upper area of the mountains visible
Frame: painted wood
Biography:
Rudolf Kargl was an Austrian portrait and landscape painter. He studied at the Vienna k.k. Kunstgewerbeschule under Franz von Matsch painting. From 1912 he was a member of the Austrian Artists' Association, founded in 1906 by Gustav Klimt among others. He regularly exhibited with great commercial success at the Wiener Künstlerhaus and, among other venues, at the Münchner Glaspalast. The majority of his works are now in private and public collections.
Work:
Kargl also dealt with portraits and still lifes, but he became known mainly for his landscape paintings and graphics. His subjects include villages and towns, lakes, mountains, and snowy landscapes in Austria, Northern Italy, and Switzerland. Kargl also depicted people, such as skiers or soldiers, as part of the impressive landscapes in which they moved. Kargl's drawings were used, among other things, for postcards of the Red Cross and the Austrian War Welfare Office in World War I.
