ARTIST BIOGRAPHY.

Alexander Ross (Portland, United States, 1978) is an abstract painter whose career develops between America and Europe, with a marked influence of the emotional landscape and fragmented memory. Initially trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ross began his career exploring American abstract expressionism, influenced by artists such as de Kooning and Rothko, though he soon developed a more introspective and material language.

In 2006, after a brief residence in Berlin, he moved to Spain, settling first in Barcelona and later in a rural area of Girona. This change of environment marked a decisive turn in his work: the Mediterranean light, natural rhythms and the silent architecture of the Catalan landscape began to filter into his compositions, softening the initial gesturality and bringing greater chromatic depth.

Ross's painting is characterized by layered surfaces, dense textures and a palette that ranges from earthy tones to bursts of more vibrant color. His works do not seek to represent, but to evoke internal states, often constructed from intuitive processes where chance plays an important role.

Throughout his career he has exhibited in galleries in the United States, Germany and Spain, establishing himself as a discreet but respected figure within the circuit of contemporary abstract art. In recent years, his work has tended toward more pared-down compositions, where emptiness and silence take on an almost architectural prominence.

He currently lives and works between Barcelona and the Empordà, where he continues to explore the possibilities of color and matter as vehicles of emotional experience.
