Chair (4) - Walnut - Rijk Snijwerk - 19th century

Beautiful set of four antique chairs in Louis XIV style, crafted from solid walnut wood. Dating: circa 19th century. The chairs are artisanal, with traditional mortise-and-tenon joints and richly adorned with unique hand-carved details. Small variations in the carving testify to authentic handwork and give each chair a special and rare character.

The seats have been reupholstered in the past and fitted with modern foam, which provides extra seating comfort. The current upholstery is neatly finished and in good condition.

The chairs were discovered in a historic house in Stabroek (Belgium). According to local history, the inn “De Groene Swaen” once stood here, a meeting place mentioned in the region as far back as the 17th century. It cannot be asserted with certainty whether the chairs were connected to this inn, but their discovery in this historic building makes their story all the more fascinating.

Condition:
Normal signs of use appropriate to age. On the armrests and at the bottom of the legs there are visible wear marks, consistent with years of use.
