Original oil on canvas – Signed, titled and countersigned on the back – French School.

Description of the lot
Magnificent oil on canvas by the French artist Gérald Ellis, a recognized figure in equestrian painting in the second half of the 20th century. This work, titled "Jockeys in the paddock", brilliantly captures the buzz and the nervous tension preceding the start of a race.

The artist employs a modern post-impressionist brush, favoring movement and the contrasts of bright colors (the jockey silks) on a palette of ochre and calmer greens. The composition, driven by the powerful silhouettes of the horses, shows a high level of mastery of the equestrian subject.
