Description from the seller
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' (*1968), Marlene Dali, circa 2010. Color serigraphy, 35.9 x 24.5 cm, signed in pencil in the lower right with the artist's name and the artist's mark, lower left listed as No. 27/50.
- in excellent condition
- Icon and Irony -
The works by Pure Evil fuse Street Art with Pop Art, with the seriality of Street Art produced through stencils already serving as a medium of Pop Art.
By juxtaposing Marlene Dietrich and Salvador Dalí, the artist creates not only a 'double icon' and thus questions the status of iconification; at the same time, he disrupts the iconic by repeating Marcel Duchamp's gesture, who gave the Mona Lisa a moustache.
about the artist
Charles Uzzell-Edwards alias 'Pure Evil' moved from London to California in 1990 after studying design, where he produced electronic music for over ten years and designed clothing. Inspired by the graffiti scene of the West Coast, he returned to London and worked as a street artist. His distinctive sigil was a vampire hare with fangs. Later he began creating prints and canvas works, in which stencil elements of street art are often used.
His works have been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and other places.
