The broad foreground, dominated by the wet pavement and reflections, opens the space to the viewer and leads it toward the center of the scene, where the main group of figures concentrates. From there, the gaze rises toward the background architecture, which emerges softly through the fog. This arrangement grants the work depth, breath and a sense of contained calm very fitting with the subject represented.

Gray City is a work that stands out for its tonal refinement, its capacity for suggestion and its contemporary vision of the urban landscape. It does not seek the literal description of a specific place, but the capturing of an atmosphere: the city in the rain, the passage of pedestrians, the silence of the open space and the ephemeral beauty of the light reflected on the wet ground.
