Description from the seller
Set of 3 stoneware pottery - Folk Art, Normandy (France) Folk Art stoneware
These folk art pottery pieces were made between the 18th and 19th centuries by potters in the village of Ger, in Normandy. There is a tradition of pottery workshops in this village since the Middle Ages.
These potteries were used throughout Normandy and Brittany, particularly by peasants.
— Bottle: this form has been produced from the 15th century until the 1910s with very little evolution! It is difficult to know when this one was made, as its ancestral technique has been passed down from father to son for 500 years. 28.5 cm x 7 cm.
— Jam pot: This small circular pot was used to store jam. The rim allows tying a string with a piece of cloth as a lid. Late 18th or 19th century 8 cm x 8 cm
— Bottle with handle: This object was used by peasants to transport cider or water, at home or in the fields. It is typical of Norman farms. 19th century. 19 cm x 12.5 cm x 15 cm
Very good condition. You can see the potter's finger marks, which gives a rustic charm to these objects; each piece is unique. The color variations, also aesthetic, are related to the temperature of the flames in the kiln (900–1400°C)
National and international shipping. Secure packaging.
