Description from the seller
Jean-Michel Frank
Contents see photo 5.
Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) was a French interior designer known for his minimalist interiors, decorated with sleek yet luxurious furniture made from luxury materials such as shagreen, mica and intricate straw marquetry. He had an eye for exotic patterns, particularly in veneer, including snakeskin and shark skin. His work gained considerable fame in the 1930s, when a select group from the upper classes adored his furniture. He is associated with the Art Deco movement.
This is a very welcome edition, a biography and monograph on the work of this important designer. The collaborations with Alberto Giacometti, Christian Berard, the Schiaparelli showroom and the Rockefeller apartments are discussed.
This book testifies to meticulousness and timelessness and makes us believe that Jean-Michel Frank was more than just a decorator; he was a pioneer who, starting with a piece of furniture, became an architect and also an innovator.
Great document of a beautiful period with hundreds of illustrations. (see photos)
Excellent condition.
Carefully packed, with tr&trace and insurance shipped.
Good luck with bidding!!
