Description from the seller
New series – Iconic Faces - Legends of pop culture
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Iconic Faces - Legends of pop culture
Creation process.
Each work in this series results from visual research and artistic composition aimed at reinterpreting the great icons of music and cinema. The artist begins by studying the distinctive features, expressions and attitude that made these personalities instantly recognizable in the collective imagination. He develops a graphic interpretation in which certain details are deliberately accentuated to create a subtle, expressive and contemporary caricature. The characters are then placed in environments inspired by their artistic worlds. At the crossroads of portrait, illustration and Pop culture, this series offers a re-reading of figures who have marked the history of entertainment and continue to influence our visual culture.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and moisture-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great longevity, color stability and a modern, contemporary look - Prints available in 40x40 / 60x60 on request.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual work, he develops a writer-performer body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
