Description from the seller
This domed miniature case (42 mm × 32 mm) stands out for its execution with great technical rigor. Its remarkable density, weighing 121 grams, confirms a solid, full-structure construction, offering a very high-quality grip.
Structure and Materials Analysis: White Metal Core: The body is made from a dense white metal (a non-ferrous alloy such as maillechort), which explains the absence of magnetism on the main structure. This material choice ensures optimal preservation with no oxidation.
Precision Assembly: The object rests on four removable "ball" feet, mounted on original steel threaded rods. This mechanical locking system allows perfect adjustment and shows the special care given to the assembly.
Damascening and Riveting: The intricate decoration features plaques of pure gold fixed by a central mechanical rivetting system. The hatch marks for gilding, applied manually, are visible under binocular magnification, guaranteeing the authenticity of the damascening work.
Finish: The contrasts are enhanced by a matte black enamel background housed in the recesses of the design (champlevé).
Condition: The object is in excellent condition. A slight wear along the edges and the hinge reveals the gray color of the structural metal, confirming the piece’s age and the quality of its gold plating. The interior retains its original red velvet.
Expertise Data:
Origin: Spain (Toledo).
Era: Late 19th century.
Mass: 121.0 g.
Dimensions: 42 x 32 x 30 mm.
