Original 40 x 40 cm oil and mixed media artwork by MEDSAN, titled Summer in Edo, signed by hand, dated 2026, in Pop Art style, depicting a geisha, from France, with certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
Acrylic painting and mixed media on a canvas mounted on a wooden frame - Hand-signed - 2026
Work signed Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, known for subverting cultural icons and bold stylistic fusions.
With this original square-format work, titled "Summer Edo", Medsan offers a new, resolutely modern and transgressive vision of traditional Japan. This richly textured painting features a classic ukiyo-e figure—a refined geisha—reimagined with the laid-back attitude of contemporary urban and seaside culture.
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: dressed in a blue kimono with delicate floral patterns, slightly opened over a polka-dot bikini top, our heroine exudes total nonchalance. Protected by retro-style black sunglasses and a delicate veil over her hairstyle, she lounges on a wave-patterned sun lounger (Seigaiha). Feet in traditional geta with tabi socks, she enjoys a can of refreshing drink, marking a pop rupture, self-assured, with classical imagery.
The impact of the canvas mainly rests on its solid bubblegum-pink background, vibrant and luminous. Painted with acrylic and mixed-media techniques, the canvas features beautiful texture effects and a careful varnished finish. This strong, Pop Art-inspired aesthetic intensifies the contrasts. In the top right corner, the signature "Medsan" is calligraphed in Japanese (katakana), sealing this perfect fusion between Edo-period classical art and modern seaside culture.
A hand-painted piece with extraordinary charisma. It’s ideal for introducing a colorful, urban, quirky, and distinctly "chill" touch to a design-forward interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true production hub, the studio operates both in collective creation and individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan focuses on Pop Art painting, exploring color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive exploration, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the atelier, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
