Medsan presents an original square 40 x 40 cm artwork in oil and mixed media titled Edo Groove (江戸グルーヴ), handmade and signed by the artist in 2026, from France, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Acrylic painting and mixed media on a wooden-stretched canvas - Hand-signed - 2026
Signed work by Medsan, artist member of Atelier Joconde, known for his reworkings of cultural icons and bold stylistic fusions.
With this original square-format piece, titled "Edo Groove," Medsan delivers a resolutely modern and transgressive vision of traditional Japan. This richly textured painting features a classic ukiyo-e figure — a warrior or general — reimagined with the relaxed attitude of retro urban culture.
The visual and temporal contrast is striking: dressed in sumptuous armor (purple, gold, red), our hero exudes total nonchalance. Protected by retro-style black sunglasses and a modern pair of headphones (type Beats), he gently carries a retro Ghetto Blaster (boombox) on his shoulder. This object, decorated with traditional gold clouds, marks a pop rupture and an assured departure from classical imagery.
The impact of the canvas largely rests on its solid emerald green background. Worked in acrylic paint and mixed media, the surface shows beautiful textural effects and benefits from a careful varnished finish. This strong aesthetic, inspired by Pop Art, makes the contrasts explode. In the upper right corner, the signature "Medsan" written in Japanese (katakana) seals this perfect fusion between Edo-period classical art and modern "groove" culture.
A hand-painted piece with formidable charisma. It’s ideal for adding a colorful, urban, offbeat, and decidedly retro-cool touch to a modern interior.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true center of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and supervised within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
