Description from the seller
Splendid Florentine Triptych - Saint Francis and Angels - Giltwood and Gessoed
In auction, a refined and elegant book-form religious triptych, a typical example of the prized Florentine artisanal craftsmanship of the second half of the 20th century. The work is made of gessoed wood and entirely decorated with rich leaf gilding that frames the sacred scenes.
Central Panel: It depicts the famous scene of Saint Francis of Assisi preaching to the birds, a symbol of peace and harmony with creation. The print is applied with mastery, integrating perfectly with the wooden structure.
Side Panels: Two splendid figures of Angels in prayer adorn the closing leaves, enriching the composition with spirituality and grace.
The structure consists of three panels joined by original metal hinges that allow it to close "as a book". The decoration features floral motifs and relief volutes, typical of the classic Florentine style.
