Description from the seller

Chokwe Tshimbuya Axe
Angola
Total length: 48 cm
Maximum width (blade and wood): 25 cm
Period: Early 20th Century
Provenance: Leiloeira Côrte Real Auction House - Porto - Portugal

Much more a scepter than an axe. Village chiefs, diviners and close to the court owned them, not laid on the shoulder as Congo herminettes, but held in the hands, the superb engravings visible to all. Probably from the late 19th century and excellent provenance from a Portuguese auction house of which Angola was one of its colonies.

Delivery guaranteed by Bpost.
