Description from the seller

1 full set of 8 pieces or tokens

Training coins (or tokens): 37,000 examples of these tokens were minted before the introduction of the euro in order to be tested by blind people. It was a prototype intended for training visually impaired people. These coins were minted between November 18, 1998 (date of technical modification of the 10 and 50 cent coins) and May 8, 2001 (date they were put into circulation). Distributed by the state, they were lent out for a few months, then retrieved for destruction. The recovery of such a large number of coins was made possible thanks to a restitution certificate to be signed, provided with each coin.

These coins differ slightly from current euro coins (diameter, weight…), which explains why they were not used as a means of payment at vending machines. However, their main characteristics are very similar (bi-metallic, edge, inscriptions…).

All training tokens distributed in Europe were minted at Pessac; you can see the difference at the bottom on the reverse of each coin.

Only +/- 1% of the coins are in circulation.
