Louis Dourand - Unfree

Unfree depicts the Statue of Liberty in an unprecedented and disarming pose: the hands cover the face, as in a gesture of crying or shame. A universal symbol of hope, welcome, and rights, the figure here folds in on itself, powerless in the face of a present that contradicts the values it embodies. The work is a visual reflection on the concept of freedom denied, manipulated, or betrayed. The crown remains intact, but it is now more of a burden than a sign of power. Unfree is a silent cry, a broken icon that invites us to look inside ourselves and question the real meaning of the word “liberty” today.
This new work stems from the creativity of French artist Louis Dourand, known for having collaborated in the past with Santicri, in an artistic dialogue that has managed to fuse different visual languages into a shared expressive vision. Santicri – with whom Louis Dourand has collaborated on several occasions – is one of the most established contemporary artists on the international scene.
He has exhibited his works in prestigious contexts such as Palazzo Grillo in Genoa in 2022 and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York in 2023.
In 2024 he was recognized among the Best-Selling Artists by Artmayeur and entered the top 3 of the most sought-after artists on Catawiki, alongside names such as Kaws and Banksy.
