In this work I aimed to capture a moment of pure introspection. With "Portrait", my goal was not mere aesthetic likeness, but the rendering of a silent and profound emotion.
I chose the 60 x 40 cm format to create a direct, intimate dialogue between the subject and the viewer. The oil technique allowed me to work on the volumes of the face through delicate, patient glazes, contrasting the delicacy of the flesh tone with a deep and vibrant blue background that isolates the figure from the rest of the world.
This piece participated in my 2022 solo show entitled "Epimetheus" and is part of a series of four portraits. The show’s title recalls the mythological figure, the brother of Prometheus: the one who “reflects afterward.” In keeping with this concept, the subject’s meditative pose embodies the thought that looks backward, the understanding that comes through memory and experience.
