In this piece I aimed to capture a moment of deep and sometimes raw introspection, explicitly inspired by the lesson of a master. "Portrait" is my personal homage to Lucian Freud, in which I sought to assimilate the capacity to investigate human psychology through the density and truth of the flesh, renouncing any idealization.
I chose the 60x40 cm format to maintain a private and direct dimension. With oil technique, I worked on the volumes of the face to give them a strong material presence, contrasting the warmth tones of the face with a deep and vibrant blue background that isolates the figure.
The gaze is the central element: directed straight at the viewer, a direct and almost interrogative eye contact that does not seek approval but establishes an immediate dialogue. This work has a special value: it was presented in 2022 in my solo show "Epimeteo", and is part of a series of 4 portraits. The title of the show, recalling the mythical figure of Prometheus' brother – the one who "reflects afterward" – assigns this portrait the role of a figure absorbed in a late comprehension, a thought that turns backward and, in this case, directly interrogates the viewer.
