This finely carved Baoulé mask comes from the Akan culture in Ivory Coast, and is distinguished by a refined aesthetic where facial symmetry and a smooth skin embody the ideal of beauty and serenity. Far from a purely utilitarian vision, these masks, often used during funeral ceremonies or community celebrations, serve as mediators between the world of the living and the world of spirits (the goli).
